We have downsized!

FOR 2017!!
We have an exchange for 2016, but would like to travel to Italy or Switzerland in 2017. We are eager to travel ANY time of year - winter or summer - as we are retired.
NEW ADDITION - we have installed a beautiful new, heated JACUZZI outdoors on our private patio. Seats 5 to 6 people.

Our home is a 3-bedroom, 2-story house with a basement, garage, and very large screened porch for enjoying the weather. Our location, only a few minutes from the Pennsylvania turnpike and with commuter train and Amtrak close by, has easy access to Philadelphia (33 miles), New York City, Washington, D.C., the Pocono Mountains, and the Amish country. The New Jersey seashore is only 80 miles away, and many of our visitors love nearby Longwood Gardens and the Valley Forge historic site. Also within a morning's travel are several famous Civil War sites such as Gettysburg, and our county was the center for the Underground Railroad during that time period. We are also very near a good train connection for all those locations as well! We are open to exchange of cars, too.
Our house has a nice front porch with a glider seat, rocking chairs, and a sun shade. Inside on the first floor we have a sitting room with a piano that we hope you will enjoy, a nice stereo and collection of both classical and blues music. Also on the first floor is a nice, eat-in kitchen, a family room with a good TV and cable connection, a large dining room, and a very, very large screened and windowed side porch. Off the side porch is a large patio with steps down to another patio and the large back yard where you can barbecue.
The second floor has 3 bedrooms and a nice hall bath with shower and tub. The master bedroom has an ensuite bath wtih a large shower. There is also a small office on the second floor.

We have no pets at the moment, having lost our dog to old age a few years ago, but well-behaved pets would be welcome. Any dogs must be kept leashed when outside according to local ordinances. We would be happy to care for your pets in your home while we are there.
We did a house-exchange years ago when our sons were young and this past summer of 2016 we enjoyed a lovely exchange in Wales. Our next destination is Italy or Switzerland as I have been studying Italian for 3 years .
We hope you will want to come to the U.S. and explore all the things in our area - for anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks!

About Our Family

My husband, Bob, and I are retired but very active and healthy.

We love to travel, but also are involved in our community as volunteers, activists, and teachers. Bob is an experienced bird-watcher and photographer; I greatly enjoy sewing, reading, and volunteer work in our community.
Both of us are very interested in the arts, music, history, architecture, theater, and literature. Bob was an English teacher in a large high school and I was a representative for the Pennsylvania affiliate of the National Education Association.

We enjoyed a very successful exchange with a family in the UK in the summer of 2016 and previously with a family in France in 1996.
We are looking forward to 2024-25 and would like very much to travel to any of the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, South America, Australia, Iceland and many other places, too. So if you are interested in coming to a beautiful, small town and historic area near many, many wonderful sites to tour, please be in touch!

We would like to do house exchanges or stays in vacation houses and prefer to be on our own, if possible, but would consider a hospitality stay if necessary. Our home is available for as little as a week, even if we are going to be away longer than that.
NOTE - I have a very small knowledge of French, Spanish, and Italian; our only reliable language is English!

Lifestyle

We are active, curious travelers. We like being in the middle of cities or near walkable small towns, but would also enjoy a stay out in the country. We much prefer old, traditional housing to ultra-modern or cookie-cutter housing tracts, but are open to all kinds of accommodations.

We would enjoy locations that are historic or near historic sites and hope to have public transportation nearby. We enjoy hiking, biking, going to museums, historic sites, theater, libraries, government buildings, or just relaxing!
