Spacious and light historic appartment in Central Rotterdam

Welcome to Rotterdam! We are Joris & Sonja and we live with great pleasure in the city with our son Oscar. Our two-floor 135m2 appartement (build in 1919) is located in a lively historical neighbourhood close to the busy city center. The appartment is spacious and light and has many authentic historical details like three meter heigh ceilings with art-deco ornaments and an ensuite livingroom. We especially love the light of the sun in the morning and evening beaming in as we enjoy our breakfast or a glass of wine. We have a free view on both sides, the backside overlooking the lovely gardens. There are two bedrooms with a doublebed and a small bedroom for a baby/toddler. In summer we enjoy the skyline view from our private sunny rooftopgarden (50m2). We also have a piano with a silent system, which guests are welcome to play, a sonos audio system, chromecast, netflix and an extensive moviecollection.

Lonely Planet named Rotterdam one the top10 best cities in the world to visit. The city is best known for it's modern architecture and edgy character. With several international musea, UNESCO world heritage Van Nelle fabriek, historical neighbourhoods, postwar reconstruction monuments, modern architectural icons, shopping, international sculpture collection (free walking route with a.o. Picasso, Henry Moore), Blijdorp Zoo, many festivals and restaurants, the city has a lot to offer. The beach and our favourite hiking forest (Meijendel) are reachable within 25 minutes by car. Rotterdam is also a good base to explore the Netherlands and Belgium.

Most of the city's attractions are reachable within 5-10 minutes by bike. For example: The Central Station, Museumpark with Boijmans v Beuningen, Sonneveldhouse and Kunsthal. Fine dining can be found nearby as well at the characteristic Historic Delfshaven, City Center, Markthal or a little more upmarket restaurants at Hofbogen (our favourite is Foodlabs, DeJong is also good) .

In the vicinity of our house there are several attractions for children like Blijdorp Zoo (including a large playground), Nature playground De Speeldernis (open from 10.00 until 18.00h), Miniworld Rotterdam and several parcs and smaller playgrounds.
On the southbank there is the childrens Museum Villa Zebra and de Maritiem Museum offer the popular childens program Professor Plons

We are runners and can share our favourite running routes with you with a range from 5 to 30km starting from our doorstep. For example you can do an city run past architectural highlights, a nature route or an old dutch heritage route. Each route leads through several of the, some monumental, city parcs.

About Our Family

Sonja (40) works as a policy advisor at the art department for the city. Joris (44) is an English teacher. Our son Oscar was born in october 2017. We used to travel to exotic destinations to indulge other cultures and natural wonders of the world or pack our tent and get on our bikes for a short weekend break. Since the birth of our son our interest has shifted a little to natural surroundingscloser to home for walks in the country, forests, mountains and beaches. Our main interest for future trips is Britain since we have not been there as much as you would expect from an english teacher.

Lifestyle

We enjoy all possibilities city life has to offer mainly packed with cultural activities, gathering with friends and outdoor running.
