House in Hyvinkää, 50 km north from Helsinki

The house is spacious; there are five beds in three bedrooms (two of them, the master bedroom and the boys' room with a bunk bed, are located upstairs; the guest room is downstairs, and there is a 120-cm-wide single bed there). In the studio downstairs there is a sofa that can be converted into an extra bed - but the mattress of the sofa bed is not as comfortable as the other beds, so I'd say our house offers ideal accommodation for five people...
Our home town is conveniently located for visiting places of interest in southern Finland either by car or using public transport. For instance, you can easily reach the capital city of Finland from here: there is a train to Helsinki every twice an hour (or alternatively, it takes 40 minutes to get there by car.) While in Helsinki, I strongly suggest you visit the Suomenlinna sea fortress, one of the Finnish UNESCO world heritage sites. And if you wish to explore other attractions in southern Finland besides the capital, then our central location might be ideal for you: within a radius of approximately 70 km (i.e. a one-hour-drive or less) you can reach four different national parks, or the town of Hämeenlinna with its medieval castle and modern spa, or the largest tropical water amusement park in the Nordic countries called "Serena", which is also only about 40 minutes away from our place. Just a little bit farther away, about 130 km northwest (about 1 h 20 min by car) from us, there is Tampere: the biggest inland city of Finland with numerous attractions to experience.
If you have enough time for touring, our home will offer you a convenient base with good communication to Helsinki and from there to other big cities of the Baltic sea region; there are cruises on daily basis from Helsinki to Tallinn, Stockholm and St. Petersburg, for instance. Even Lapland is not infeasible to visit from here: if you don't wish to sit in the car for a long time, there is also the opportunity of taking a night train from Helsinki up to the arctic circle to experience the midnight sun in the summer or northern lights in the winter.

  • shopping Pyrhönen grocery (0.5 km)
  • forest jogging tracks etc. (0.7 km)
  • beach Usminjärvi beach (8.1 km)
  • golfing Hyvinkää golf course (7.5 km)

Our house is situated in a town of approximately 40000 inhabitants. The neighbourhood is nice and peaceful, and it is only a 5-minute-walk to the nearest grocery or to a bus stop to go downtown. The town has some recreation facilities of its own to offer, for instance slalom slopes in the winter and an area of outdoor public swimming baths with cafeteria and playground for children to refresh yourself on a warm summer day. In the center of the town you will find the most important cultural spots in Hyvinkää, such as the Finnish Railway Museum, Hyvinkää Art Museum, Valvilla Wool Mill Museum, several parks and statues as well as coffee houses and restaurants.
River Vantaanjoki, the total length of which is about 100 km, streams by Hyvinkää at only 2 km's distance from our house. The Hyvinkää area has nine places on the Vantaanjoki river for white-water fishing, and if you wish you can take canoeing trips on the river all the way to Helsinki during canoeing season.
For those interested in music I would like to also recommend visiting Ainola, the former home of maybe the most famous Finnish composer of all times, Jean Sibelius; it is located in Järvenpää, about 30' drive from our house.
Especially younger visitors might appreciate the fact that there are several amusement parks available nearby: in addition to Linnanmäki (in Helsinki) there is for example Puuhamaa in Tervakoski and the science centre Heureka in Tikkurila - both of them within about a half-an-hour drive from us.
