A unique loft in a rural setting, right in the city of Ottawa.
We are flexible with both dates and duration, and are happy to consider non-simultaneous exchanges.
This unique loft apartment is set within a beautifully repurposed Quonset hut—once used as a barn for many years—located just outside Ottawa. The two-acre property is surrounded by peaceful farmland, offering a true country atmosphere while still being conveniently close to everything. We are just 7 minutes from the airport and the EY Centre, 20 minutes to downtown, 2 minutes to the casino, golf, hiking and biking trails, and only 5 minutes to grocery stores.
The space itself is a rustically appointed, repurposed airport hangar with striking rounded, white-washed pine ceilings that create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. There are two spacious bedrooms with comfortable queen-size beds and generous closet space. The living room sofa converts into an additional queen bed and is located within the open-concept kitchen and living area, complete with a large SMART TV.
The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, cookware, pantry essentials, and everything needed to prepare a delicious meal. The three-piece bathroom features a deep bathtub/shower combination, along with a washer and dryer. Guests will also enjoy thoughtful amenities such as a dedicated workspace, high-speed internet, BBQ, and ample free parking. From the furnished balcony, you can take in spectacular sunsets or explore the expansive property grounds. It’s the perfect countryside retreat while still enjoying all that Canada’s capital has to offer.
The city of Ottawa offers something for visitors year-round. Located in eastern Ontario near Montréal and the U.S. border, the city sits along the Ottawa River and is home to iconic landmarks such as Parliament Hill, known for its grand Victorian architecture, as well as cultural institutions like the National Gallery of Canada, which houses renowned Indigenous and Canadian art collections. The scenic Rideau Canal is lively with boats in summer and transforms into the world’s largest skating rink in winter.
There is no shortage of things to do, from fine dining and sightseeing to hiking, biking, spa experiences, music festivals, outdoor adventures, and vibrant patios. We are also ideally located for exploring beyond the city—less than two hours to Montréal, about five hours to Québec City, four hours to Toronto, and just a bit farther to Niagara Falls. Our home makes an excellent base for discovering both Ottawa and many of eastern Canada’s most exciting destinations.

We are a relaxed, retired couple who love to travel and enjoy welcoming others to our home.
My husband Dan and I have been married for 27 years and have two grown children. As a family, we’ve travelled extensively and share a love of exploring new corners of the world. We enjoy a wide range of experiences, including camping, cruising, scuba diving, meeting new people, and discovering new places.
Dan is a retired electrician, and I am a retired vice principal and teacher. Although we’re retired, we stay very active and enjoy working on a variety of projects. Most recently, we built a five-star lakeside rental cottage in Quebec. The apartment we are currently offering for exchange is also a five-star Airbnb and is located on our primary property.
We are not new to home exchanges. Over the years, we have participated in two teacher exchanges in Australia as well as Intervac exchanges to Austria and Spain. Our year-long teacher exchanges took us to Mudgee, New South Wales, and Moonta, South Australia, where we exchanged homes, cars, and even our cat!
Now that we are retired, we have the flexibility to travel on our own schedule rather than the school calendar. We are excited to share our corner of the world while discovering yours. Some of our recent travels have included Amsterdam, Bonaire, the Galápagos Islands, the Canary Islands, Roatán, Jamaica, and Scotland, to name just a few.
