About the neighborhood
We are a young retired couple with three children who have left home and a granddaughter. We love travelling and socialising, and have successfully completed five exchanges.
Caen stone house with kitchen, utility room, living room and lounge opening onto a terrace overlooking the garden on the ground floor. On the first floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom. On the second floor, there is a bedroom and a lounge music room. The garden is not overlooked and is completely enclosed by a low stone wall, with a wire fence around a meadow with horses and an outbuilding. Indoor parking for cars, closed by a motorised gate...
In our village, you will find a bakery/pastry shop, a butcher's shop, and a medical centre. In the neighbouring village of Ranville (the first village liberated on 6 June 1944), you will find a market shop, a pharmacy, and more.
Our village, overlooking the Bay of Orne river (a bird sanctuary for migratory birds and sea calves), is located 5 km from the coast with its wild or developed beaches (Merville Franceville), and between 10 and 20 km from the seaside resorts of Cabourg, Houlgate, Ouistreham...also about 30 minutes from Deauville and 45 minutes from Honfleur.
Our location is ideal for hiking or cycling along the network of well-maintained paths. You can enjoy pleasant short or medium-length walks along the coast, exploring the Normandy countryside and paths through the Dives marshes.
Culturally, we are 13 km from the centre of Caen and its historical monuments (William the Conqueror's Castle, the Abbayes aux Hommes and Abbayes aux Dames, the Memorial museum, etc.).
We are at the heart of the historic sites of the 6 June 1944 (D-Day) landings, 3 km from Pegasus Bridge, 5 km from the Merville Battery, and on the route to the major landing beaches, such as Omaha Beach, military American or German cemeteries and memorial museums.
Encounter with an illustrious figure from our region, William the Conqueror (1028-1087), his castle in Falaise (30 minutes), the Tapestry and the town of Bayeux (30 minutes).
Day trips: La Manche, neightboor area, with its small ports, lighthouses, beautiful wild beaches, villages, castles, and lovely gardens (Saint Vaast la Hougue, Barfleur, Cherbourg, Granville, etc.).
Extending along the coastline, Famous Mont Saint Michel and St Malo historical town.
South of Caen, the beautiful landscapes of Suisse Normande area and its sporting activities (canoeing and climbing, etc.).
Nearest Airport: Caen Carpiquet
